Default Poor mans food

Just had a thought, pretty much everyone at one time or another has gone through a period where food was luxury, be it as a student or inbetween jobs, or your just bad with money.

What did you guys live on?

My personal favourite throughout uni was Mi goreng. Every fortnight when my aus study payment came through I would come home with a box of the stuff. One time straight after college, we actually organised a group buy on them and bought a crate of it...

Still to this day I love the stuff. I recently introduced my housemate to it who is a poor apprentice. But for some reson he cannot cook it for the life of him. I showed him my way but he insists on doing it different, and always overcooks the noodles and puts all the sauces in the water before he strains it??? - muppet! Still, he loves it, and now we are back to buying boxes of the stuff.

My other favourite is toasted cheese sandwiches. We used to get loaves of home brand bread for 99c a kg block of home brand cheese for $5 add a bit of sweet chilli sauce for a bit of flavour. closest thing to a nutritional meal I had. And when it got really poor, instead of paying 99c for a loaf of bread, we'd pay $5 for a bag of bakers flour and make our own.

Any way theres my life story.... What do you survive on?

yeah mi goreng and toasted sandwiches were an all time favourite.. but i easily get bored of the taste. Now i prefer the UP & GO or the protein supplements. Fills me up AND i feel ontop of the WORLD!!!

Yeah, mate at work just got me onto the Mi goreng noodles. I also love Continental "flavours of the world" Tom Yum Cup of Soup. Its great as a little snack. The simple foods make me happy, toast with vegimite and cheese, toasted salami with cheese... yum :P
