Is 30,000km high for a motorbike?

I am looking at bikes.

Definitely tyre kicking but would love a Ducatti or Buell.

Well actually I would reallllly love a Victory Cyle, preferably one in which Arlen Ness has messed with but at $30K +ORC before Arlen even touches it, no thanks!

This has taken my fancy.

Pros and cons of a Buell anybody?

And is 30,000km scary?

Depends how its maintained.. My bike has 80 thousand kms on it.. and it runs like a dream granted its a V4 but it all depends how its been looked after.

Recently bought a bike with 28k on it. Runs great!

perthstreetbikes.com or perthriders.com might provide more info :)

my mate at work has a buell, he hardly rides it & was toying with the idea of selling it, pretty sure it has low k's, you want me to ask him? its grey tho, not red

MKVIGTI 05-04-2009 07:54 PM

Yea PSB no doubt someone mechanically minded will help out and inspect it for you if you ask nice.

Would expect it to have a reasonably new chain and sprocket on it by now (If not expect to do it soon) and check that it shifts and stays in gear ok. Otherwise if it looks good and feels nice and tight I wouldn't worry about the mileage unless they have regularly been doing track days or drags every week.

On road it just isn't really possible to thrash a sports bike like you can thrash a car.

Just looked at the pics. Belt drive. Should be laughing. Something different & a grunter rather than a screamer. Much more relaxed to ride.

Yeah that would be good. See if he wants to trade a jet ski for it

I am sure it would be fast either way plus I don't want a fuckn fast thing anyway, I just want something that I can have a bit of fun on for a year or so, then I will grow bored and sell it anyway. I would imagine a belt drive would be safer than a chain anyway right? I guess I would rather a belt slap me in the calf more than a chain if it gave way anyway.

Pro- looks unique.
Con- powered by Harley.

MKVIGTI 05-04-2009 08:43 PM

Whatever you buy it will be fast if you haven't been on sports bikes before. Almost everything big bore out there will do a sub 12 1/4 mile with a bit of effort ( with the exception of heavy cruisers ).

Don't cheap out on the protective gear and buy stuff that you will wear. Better to have a jacket, gloves, boots, draggins etc that you will wear EVERY time rather than something that is really good but a bit uncomfortable so you say screw it just this once.

just spoke to my mate, he is looking at selling but hasn't advertised it yet, its a 2005 model has 8,000 k's on it, he's looking for $12k, let me know if you want his details :)
