Project Car

Looking at starting a project car towards the end of the year and looking for some ideas and feedback. I am thinking of a Camaro SS or something i can drop a big v8 in.

Thanks.

1) 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS
2) 1956 Chevrolet Belair
3) 1966 Pontiac GTO

Has to be either a big black one or a shady purple.
Give it some beef.

from experience, unless you have all the tools, the space, the time and about $40k spare, give it a miss.....unless you wanna build a commonwhore?

i've built 2 the hard way and never again!!!!

but if you tick all the boxes, give it hell, there's nothing like rollin' in ol skool V8's

Sound advice here, my Vette ended up being bigger than ben hur in the end, there is always something to do and then you always want it perfect..... from a simply recond motor ended up being a bombed 350, jeez the interior good doo with a bit of work, then the paintwork wasn't quite good enough, shit now the suspension isn't tooo good......
Having said that very rewarding once finished but a shit load of work....

If you do have the cash check out a place called New Old Cars in qld. They literally make new registerable shells of old models. Much better than buying an old rusted out one. Then you have the option of putting whatever motor you want in it. If I had the cash I'd be doing this for sure.

1972 2 door LJ torana with a three fitty in it.

Or a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door.

Just be careful whatever you buy now.. with the high yank dollar last year there was alot of ''showroom'' condition cars that made our shores which turned out to be high grade mexican jobs!
Just have a magnet handy, best way to know if your car is bondo spec or real tin! :)

'68 camaro is the better spec than a '67 as it lost the 1/4 windows (no kettle sounds), changes to side indicator lights are the main differences.
'69 is always a mean looker.. might be better off getting a licenced example then play with it over time.

C3 vettes are always nice as well... get something '69-'72 with the chrome bumpers..If i had a vette again it be the early models. Again it comes down to how much you wanna spend.

Main thing is to be prepared to spend.. at least 50k incl car to have a decent run!
