Simmons Wheels Officially Closed

We that's just tragic news. Maybe its my generation, but its an iconic wheel that suited any and every kind of car. If your street machine didn't have a set of simmons then it was just an ordinary car not even worthy of readers rides!. I have been lucky to have had two sets of his wheels and its a shame I wont be able to get a third. Its big loss to the modifying community!

Almost every car, they look crap on Commodores. Look porn on old school bogan cars like GT Falcons and LH/LX Toranas though. I have a set of gold Simmons V5's sitting in the shed for 10 years waiting for me to finish restoring the Alfetta they came off. (they were the only good thing about the car!)
I guess the Chinese strike another blow for Aussie manufacturing. People whinge about cheap Chinese products, yet for the most part still buy the cheapest of any range.

WRXRW 02-07-2009 10:37 PM

and that's half the problem. with such quality products made here in australia why would you consider anything else? china is good for cosmetic things but anything of substance like wheels, suspension, turbos you are better leaving it to quality merchants not pedlers of crap.

support dms, motec, autronic, holinger & harrop before they too go under!

gold v5 simmons, now that's a classic!

i would go given my right testicle for them when i first got my licence, but alas, 15" stock snowflakes had to do

Wow!!
I remember Simmons were the rim to have on anything Australian when I was a younger lad looking at cousin's rides and reading mags.
Sad to see an Australian manufacturer bow out

Hahah, Ramon, you started in a Falcon? Old habits die hard hey.
The workshop I was working at today had a XY GT in there, dark metallic green, gold GT stripe with 15" V5's, (mandatory BFGoodrich T/A's of course) Classic Aussie style.:D
I've just been searching immages of XB Coupe's, A9X's with B45's etc. Makes me wanna dust off the flanno and go there again!

How long does it take to grow a decent mullet when baldness has already set in?

living the working class dream dougie! always dreamed of taking the hand-me-down family falcon s-pac to the next level, but sadly my ambition and immagination couldn't quite keep up with my wallet!

reading through various forums now, the diehard simmons fanboys are coming out thick and fast! one guy, says he may of just got the last pair of simmons ever made....bit of history there, tragic its ending up on a holden

I was lucky enough to go to the Simmons factory in Sydney circa '93/'94. Back when Subaru's were laughed at, I wanted a set of big rims for my Brumby and Simmons were both a stylish wheel and able to machine one suit. At that time my Brumby was the only one they had made a set of wheels for.

I too am saddened to hear of this closure :(

16" Simmons B45, one of my favourite rims... was always my dream wheel on my RX7, as well as the fabled Simmons FR17.

Real shame to see them go :(
