Kinda agree. to actually browse the net you need a laptop. That said i use my Nokia E71 for email, and simple web browsing on the move.

For example the other day, left home (south the river) and got all the way to Malaga before i realized i left the piece of paper with the address and contact details for the client i was heading too. Quick check on their website from my phone and i had the address and contact number, punched the address into Google maps (also on my phone) and i had directions on how to get there from where i was sitting on the side of the road!

Also sync my phone and my lappy calendars so i always have my diary without having to pull out my laptop etc. I guess it comes down to what you want in a phone.

My advise would be have a look around at what phones can do these days then decide what you want it to do. Then find the phone that will do it!

Few things to look out for... Check out the warranty! i've had a number of nokia's die on me 13 months into a 24 month contract. Usually with a 12 month warranty...! Lookout for battery life, had a $1.5k PDA which lasted 3-4 hours with email running and a few phone calls. My current phone (Nokia e71) lasts me 3-4 days with email and i do spend half the day on the phone.

Finally depending on whether your looking for outright, or on a plan.. shop around for the best deal. I've been with 3 for a number of years now, but managed to swing a free upgrade on my phone 16 months into a 24 month contract. New phone on a $69 cap with free 1GB data per month, and no charge for the phone.

I've had experience over the years where both VF and Optus will contact you around 3 months prior to end of contract to offer a new handset as a loyalty thing, to keep you as a customer.

My present phone, a Nokia 6110 Nav was dead after 14 months & replaced under the "extended" warranty which I paid an extra $9/month. IMO the extended warranty was crap as the repairer was some no-name in Wollongong who had the handset for 2 months before it was finally replaced. Look carefully into extended warranties. My plan has just come up & I'll likely be getting a Blackberry as they have a 2 year manufacturer warranty, which is the life of the contract.

As for what you want, I've been checking all the carriers for the last 2 months and it seems VF have the best bang for buck deals presently. Since you can now port your mobile# it pays to shop around each time your plan expires.

If you do use much email, than my input might be relevant to you.

I would say my blackberry bold serve me well with reliable internet/email access plus a huge storage of video/pics/mp3 (depending on your external memory). Phone might be chunky compare to your normal phone, you might have to get use to the size. As for the processing speed, its way faster than both my previous HTC phone combined together. This is my fav phone to date, love my blackberry!!

Downside is that work expects you to work 24/7.

My wife is currently using a Nokia 5800 express music phone. It's excellent, however the camera is only 3mp from memory.

Thanks guys, I am currently resisting the move for email to my phone but can see its only a matter of time before it is implemented so I do need to be able to at least read them. I'll have alook at what you guys have recomended so far. It is a work phone so plan and cost of phone is irrelevant.

i used my old E65 for email and internet access, and as above, you'll be expected to be contactable on email constantly.

Yeah I agree. If you are going to use the Iphone primarily as a phone then yeah give it a miss. But if like me you use quite a few apps on the Iphone, watch movies, listen to music etc then it's fantastic.
