Ps3 problem HELP!!!
Went out today and bought a ps3 anyway to cut things short i want it to play a set of us/ca region dvd's i bought..
Now the problem is it says wrong region i am under the impression ps3 play all regions hence me buying one.. Upto now after messing this afternoon i have gone into settings and changed the region to united states but that doesnt solve it?? anyone any ideas??? cheers in advance gerry;) |
im assuming it might require a chip/mod only the fact i know the lazer only reads legit australian dvds/games
back on the ps2 format the aus ps2 covered UK/nz and aus games/dvds might be different now.. my suggestion is get those dvds and get the movies off them onto your computer and reburn them in a format the ps3 can read |
I don't have a PS3, but i'd say you're pretty much screwed unless you flash the firmware of the PS3, aka - putting custom based non-standard software on it.
This will almost definitely void any service support and possibly get you banned from playing online, so i wouldn't recommend it. Or i could be completely wrong and there is a way of easily doing it ... |
PS3 games are not region protected
Blueray movies are region protected DVD's are region protected |
They are legit dvds just in usa/canada region format i got told that the ps3 would play any region dvd ie not just pal but ntsc also????
|
games are region free
dvd's region locked blurays region locked (if bluray is locked to a region quite a few are free) |

Are you trying to buy cheap DVDs? You can always buy them and then rip them, they'll then play on your PS3. Alternatively you can either pay to download movies from various sites or use torrents.
|
No i bought season 4 of stargate atlantis off ebay then found out its region 1 ie usa and and canada (ntsc) not "pal" like here and the uk..
Paid 60 bucks for em but his ad stated that, so i cant really send em back as i should of known better thats why i thought sod it buy ps3 and they will play on that rather than buy another set of dvds.... so dont know what to do now.... |
re-rip them on your pc or just use your pc on your tv.
|
Ahh didnt think of that will try it tomoz i need to buy a cable to hook laptop upto tv though..
Will the picture be ok going onto a 50" lg plasma??? |

Toshiba dont know about the leads though think just the usb style ones??
Just tried playing the dvd on here and it needs a decoder to play it on were can i get them free and safe with nio virus attached?? |
codecs : http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=5219&s=775
usb type cables wont work, it needs to be either the same one you plug a monitor into (vgi/dvi). i would presume the laptop would have either vga or dvi connections. check your tv to see if it has the same, it will say in the manual. |
Will download that now cheers :)
On back of laptop it has 3 usb sockets a modem socket like phone plug and another like the phone plug oh and two long ish sockets with loads of pin holes in them????? |
Just buy a cheap ass dvd player as most of them are multi region,
they can be had as cheap as $50 nowdays. |

Handbrake on your pc plus ext HDD = DVD's playing on PS3
|
Sorry to hear mate, sounds like a dvd player would have been a much cheaper option than a PS3.
I have an LG dvd player cost about $80 and was region unlockable. |
sorry to hijack the thread, but i bought a ps3 from the states and i've been trying to play aus games on it and it keeps coming up with a setting error, whats settings do i have to change?

You won't be able to play NTSC games on your PS3. Plus you won't be able to play AUS DVDs on your PS3. I had the same deal with my NTSC PS3 from Singapore. I ended up flogging it and buying a Aus PS3. |
What is the actual error?
And LOL for not being able to play NTSC (America) games on a PS3 from America. PS3 games worldwide are all the same and region free. I happilly play all Aus bought PS3 games on my Japanese PS3. |

That's the issue I had, plus the DVDs wouldn't play. |
I have got a cheap lg dvd player an that dont play em either :(
gonna get a lead an try it from laptop to tv... cheers for the help/advice though its much apprecaitted :) :) |
If you have a fairly modern LCD or Plasma TV it should have a VGA and at least a few HDMI connections.
Best picture will come out of a DVI connector from your laptop to a HDMI connector on your TV. There are adapters or leads available. But then you will likely miss out on the best Upscaling from normal DVD's (non BlueRay) to 1080p (HD) I have seen, from your PS3. Even torrent DIVx or XVid files look very good through the PS3. Far better than I can get out of my Macbook. The easist way to retain very good picture quality is to rip the DVD's into VOB format via Handbrake or MacTheRipper then copy the folders to an 8GB or larger USB Stick. Plug that into the PS3 and bingo. Upscaling and quality sound. :) |
lol @ jezza :)
