As part of the US government's 'Cash for Clunkers' initiative, the engines of traded in cars (where the owners have taken the handouts) must be 'disabled'

This means basically removing all the oil, filling the engine with sodium silicate, and running it til it dies..

(Apparently) the initiative is to encourage people into 'greener' cars, but surely it's hardly good environmental practice to destroy otherwise serviceable cars, and then producing a new car with slightly better fuel consumption figures?

fuck lasted a while haha watch the Jeep one lasts 5 seconds lol.

This has more to do with the US gov trying to prop up the car industry than reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They hope people will buy more new US Made cars, but they still end up buying Japanese/Korean cars.

That Volvo isnt even that old.

yeh from reading it, you give them your car and they give you heaps off a new car, but they have to break the motors in your car first.........

This is fucked up. Pretty much they give you $4500 for your car however if the deal falls through, you have to give the $4500 back and take your now broken car.
