I'm pretty sure a while ago I read in a forum about the possibility of a Cannonball style race in lil ol' Australia, but this morning I got the strangest message on my phone from someone I'm assuming was a friend (that I've since deleted their number) with this address:

Cannonball aust is till on, for those interested in details I had found this:
CANNONBALL AUSTRALIA is bringing this unique driving experience to the streets of Australia where up to 100 cars will enjoy breathtaking, spectacular routes. One hundred drivers and their co-drivers will depart from the originating city and travel with stops at checkpoints and an event track along the way.CANNONBALL AUSTRALIA will unite car enthusiasts from around the world in the biggest moving car rally in Australia. The number of entries will be strictly held to an exclusive one hundred drivers and their co-drivers, who will be pushing everything from Fast Fords, exotic Ferraris and Lamborghinis to muscle and high horsepower customized imports and more! The object of the event is to maintain an average national speed limit over the entire route, stopping overnight in various cities. The cars will have to negotiate through different checkpoints along the routes and complete a track day to get to the final destination. The event will conclude with a black tie celebration for participants and guests where the winner of the event will be named. $8k is not too bad, The Gumball 3000 cost US$120K per car in 2008. Slightly different ball game though.

That just tells you they have not got enough entries.

Targa West / Tas is about a $7k ask and this event a bit longer so probably about right.
