You can be sued and there are numerous cases of health care professionals and Joe Public first aiders being sued successfully for negligence. Obviously this may seem unfair when the person being sued was only trying to help, but what if their 'first aid' was so incompetant, perhaps there are certain situations when litigation is acceptable. For example I remember a teacher at primary school attempting to treat a serious burn with butter (an old wives tale) before someone who knew what they were doing took over.
