I've got a APR stage 2+ gti pirelli - same engine as in the new R (not the same base as the new gti)
This engine on the awd platform is going to be great.

Tune wise, they are all off-the-shelf and not custom.
Apr from quattro motors, GIAC from marks workshop.
You can also go for a bluefin from superchips (handheld map switcher).
WA doesn't have a revo dealer, nearest one is SA... That's a tune you can easily alter timing/ fuel/boost on with their handeld controller.

If you're curious about how some mods wake up the car, I'd be happy to show you.

Depends what you want from the car really.

What are the repayments like on a $60K car and what would the total amount payed back be? That sort of money would buy an awful lot of motorsport.

If you can live with one get yourself a sub $10K Commodore wagon as a tow car / daily, $4K on a decent car trailer and there are B reg cars starting at $6K (there is one on PWRX for sale!). There are obviously other costs and you would be mad to take out finance to fund motorsport but you get the idea.

If your just after a very nice daily and your not interested in motorsport then ignore all that

I checked out a few GTI's n luved the DSG boxes (esp compared to the Lancer RALLIARTS) but found the view out the rear to be very difficult. Anyone else find this?

No.

Next time you drive a DSG, enable launch control by putting it to manual mode, press the DSC button to off and pump the brake. If you did it right you should be able to put your foot flat to the floor on the go pedal and it will just rev, foot off brake and hold on.

Nah never really noticed, DSGs are awesome, but take a bit of getting used to.

This came out today, sounds like it's not too far away and may be cheaper than the MK5 R32

Thats good news, the R is around $4K more expensive in the UK than the mark V, so bonus that it's actually cheaper in Oz.

Review of R20 - http://www.insideline.com/volkswagen...rst-drive.html

Carsales article seems to confirm what dealer told me. June-July deliveries and priced to competed with the STi.

Although once you option it up i think youll be looking at close to 65-70 driveaway.

Yet another article here. Looks like Oz is getting a slightly detuned version though.

"The German car maker says the Australian-spec Golf R, due mid-year with a price tag somewhere in the mid-$50,000 range, will achieve similar results, despite the engine being detuned to 188kW in response to this country's reputation for a hot climate."
