Default Seriously thinking about a Golf R. Opinions Pls

Seriously thinking about a Golf R if they ever bring any of them here and if I can get my hands on one.

For all intents and purposes I figure it is a slightly lighter R32 with a better and more efficient 2 litre turbo in it.

So big question is has anyone had a play with an R32 and would it be a worthy change over from the pig.

I know it won't be quite as hard as the pig but if its almost as good with decent ride comfort and as much of a sleeper as it is I can almost see myself doing it.

Pretty sure if I do get one it won't really get modded but as far as sways to get the balance to my liking and perhaps a tune is much available for them or no one bothers.

Who are the VW specialists in Perth?

as in the VW equivalent of MMS, ASG, TFM etc?

Just curious as it would be good to have an independent specialist's opinion

theres a few in oz and all audi/vw/skoda parts are interchangeable.

have started doing research on the very same as the new 2.0T golf R with awd should be way better than the R32.

Golf R is due some time second quarter of this year. Probably expect a waiting list when it first comes out and any additional stock they bring in will be snapped up quick. If you order one to your spec it'll be at least a 12 week wait, probably longer (at least thats how long it took for my MkV GTI).

It'll be an awesome car but if you want to track it regularly it would be better to stick with STI/EVO. As a road car they'll be no comparison, Golf will be way better. I never modified my GTI but plenty of tuning options, just no local support here in Perth like you get with Japanese cars. Check out the VW watercooled forum for more info (www.vwwatercooled.org.au).

I've been waiting patiently for more info on the Golf R also. I haven't had much luck so far getting any concrete info regarding pricing and expected delivery dates as yet.
I have driven the new Gti and the old MK5 R32 and was pretty impressed with both.
There is a bit of discussion regarding the new R on here: www.golfmkv.com in the Australian section of the forums, also there are a few Perth guys on there with modified Gti's so i'm sure they would be able to point you in the right direction regarding local tuners.

I've got an 08 R32 with DSG and they are pretty awesome cars. I was looking at an 08 sti before I got the R32 and although the Sti is certainly quicker, for me the R32 was a better all round package. It's probably more of a GT and the mark V is probably a little bit on the heavy side, but the new R with the lighter 2lt should fix up that. It'll also be easier & cheaper to mod than the mark V. I don't think they're going to be cheap though.

I think delivery dates were 2010 Q4 and pricing was around $60k mark compared to $55k for Mark V.

Although there are plenty of benefits switching to the 2L turbo, its a shame we won't get that awesome noise of the V6 in the R32 anymore!

yeah I love that V6 & I think even if they had offered the 2lt as an option, I still would have gone for the bigger engine.
