IMO: New cars are great technology wise, but you cant beat the body shape and feel of the classics.

So now you've planned to go ahead with this, I 'on behalf of perth-wrx', demand pic's of this project now and during updates

yeah, throw some pics up of the old girl tils

my 1st car was a TE cortina, 2litre pinto, it started the mod bug in me, it already had a cam & extractors when i bought it so i followed through with some twin su's, it went pretty hard, put many 6 cylinder torri's to shame

still wish i'd never sold it as it needed a good tidy up & some love, it wasn't really a looker but here's a couple of pics, excuse quality as they're photo's of old photo's taken almost 20 years ago

Rolley Waters sells 5 Speeds for around $1k but I'll part with mine for $800 for pwrx members.

I'm pretty sure I made a thread about my project exploits. Haven't updated it for at least a year or so, but it's around somewhere.

I'm in a very similar boat to you with my 1600 mate. I've considered selling it many times, and have had offers in excess of $6000 (for an unregistered, rusted to fark, hardly running 40yr old car)... But there's just something inside me that doesn't want to part with it.
Hold onto it I reckon, plod away at it over time, and enjoy it. by the time you're 'finshed' it'll be a 50yr old car, and worth a shite load more (if you need to sell it)

Or Mike Van Den Rynt up in wanneroo. He has done it all. Builds some super quick race cars and will give you an honest and realistic price. Built me an awesome race motor last year when I had my cortina.

Keep it, I've had 5 Escorts over the years...Bought a brand new RS2000 back in 79 met Rolly not long after as I blew the diff trying to get to do 0 - 100 in under 10 sec haha and had Rolly work on it in about 81, twin 45 Webbers, roller cam, shot peened rods etc etc. My ex nearly got run off the road because she blew the doors off a XA GT and the guy driving wasn't too happy, I had it for 12yrs and sold it for what I paid for it.
You are very lucky to have an auto shell as they have a much bigger tranny tunnel so less need for modding the floor for the bigger box, Celica 5 speed was the most popular mod back in the early 80's, C pillar is a pain, I restored one 25 years ago and had new/better C pillars grafted in then filled the gap under the vent so no more water could accumulate.
As said, speak to Rolly and ask him what he thinks, he used to have a yard full of bodies etc but I haven't been there for a few years.

My first car was a mk2 escort 4 door. Bought it with a dead motor from Rolly in 96 or 97 for $250. Had another that my brother had totalled with a rebuilt 1600 so made one out of two. Just before I got my license in end of 97 I found a yellow mk2 2 door with a 1300. Ripped it out and 1600 in. Loved that car. Could really throw it around.
