Wow I didn't realize just how many of u on here have had a classic ford, in my opinion the small cars from fords 60's/70's/80's era are some of the greatest small cars out there. And the fact u don't see that many of them makes me want to hang onto mine even more.
Managed to get the engine home today, currently sitting at my mums place, and got a chance to admire my mk2 once again after years of neglect. She's getting in worse shape being out in the weather so I think it's time I get my arse into gear and strip her back, fix and prime all the panels whilst the cancer isn't terminal...as for the engine i'm still unbeknown to the condition of the internals, for all I know it could be flogged to shit. I do know however that the twin 45's are sitting nicely there on a sidedraught manifold. One of the carbs has a serial number relating that it's a 40mm weber but the seller assured me it is 45mm...we will soon see wen I give it a closer inspection and mild rebuild I'll have to get onto rolly, my in laws are in bayswater so next time I'm there I'll check it out. Thanks to those who have given advice and showed interest. The cortinas are another favourite, and if anyones got pics of capris past own then I'd definitly like to see those too I will make a thread later this week with some pics and progress of the old girl and hopefully get it to where I've always dreamed |

I love the old fast Fords. There is a reason they are still so popular in motorsport today!! I have been pining over one for a long time but they are getting bloody pricey!
I'm with everyone else saying finish the project...If it was me though I would be restoring it with only period modifications and building a historic / vintage race car out of her. Personally I hate seeing rare cars like these with silly engine swaps, chrome rims, purple vinyl interiors and orange paint. |

^^^^ couldn't agree more, keep it looking original........but you can fit Alfa 14" rims, mind you there are probably a million options now, worst thing I did to my RS2000 was fit a roo bar and sun roof when it was less than a week old but I did live in Leinster and the roo bar did save me a new nose a couple of times.

Years later I bought a mint 1970 GT 3000 that was grandad fresh. I fitted shocks, springs, 13 x 7 hotwires (black, polished lip) and a Celica 5 speed. I kept if for about 6 years as a weekender. Eventually sold it to a young guy and it got stolen and torched. I only have paper photos though, way before didital pics. |
