Hail Sales..... v2.0

Ok so I know theres a million storm related threads but I'm in the market for a new car and would love a bargain, I checked out pickles before the storm and nothing took my interest but i think now that a bunch of "write offs" are floating around it would be the perfect time to snap something up.

So far I know of Pickles and I will be going out there next wednesday to see whats going. http://www.pickles.com.au/damaged/auctions/?ed_city=Perth&ed_search_category=Damaged&x=14&y=6

Is anyone aware of any other places around that will be selling large amounts of mechanically sound hail damaged cars? Around the 10k mark, so Subaru isn't really my thing. Maybe Ross's?

I have heard Paceway Mitsubishi & Scarborough Toyota have already started their sales.

I am going for a gander tonight. I know they are shut but at least I can have a good look around without some salesman trying to get my details and try and set me on a car that does not exist.

I think the trick will be to put a price on it that you are prepared to pay and not wory about the crap they come up with or whats on the pinky.

Pickles have started listing cars on their site for a storm auction, the first one is listed for the 13th of April.

And the listing has been expanding, I checked 3 times today and each time there had been a considerable number of additions -

Im wondering if theres an auction that has more exotic cars that were unfortantey caught up also...

To those considering a hail damaged car, take note of the following:

It will need to go through the pits at some stage.
If you want to insure it you will need to advise of its status which will require it to be roadworthy as such point one is visited again nonetheless.
You need to pick it up stupidly cheap to be an actual bargain. RRP, less the cost of repairs less at the very least 30%. THAT is a bargain, paying anything more is just putting a hole in your pocket.

A tainted car is still that, so it's gotta be an absolute bargain.

IMHO

Agree with you on that Jamie... Years ago you could go buy a damaged car at the auctions, fix it up and make a decent amount of money on it. Now you go there and the people bidding are mostly of "middle eastern decent" and bid against each other so much that some sell for close to what it is worth fixed.
I can see the hail auctions going the same way.

Actually the recent changes to law regarding repairable write off's will make light work of those that do dodgey repairs. All vehicles listed on the repairable write off register now require work by approved workshops and PROOF of all NEW replacement parts as well as being inspected and passed by an approved workshop/centre PRIOR to attending the pits for registration.

I would call the dpi for clarification but this now seems to be the new normal, and should be kept in mind.

I am genuinely in the market for a demo or 12 month old s class / 7 series / a8 / ls460 and was looking at getting a hail damaged one because there are a few tax advantages for us but the dealers are still on smack.
