are you dead set on a golf? or are you after a tdi
have you considered an A4 td or a passat, i dont know if either car is good or bad, i just dont understand hatches

If you want a sedan, the Jetta is the go here. Basically the same as a golf, but with a sedan boot. The Audi will run you 10k more at least, for the same thing basically, just a different name/colour.

I went from an 03 STi with a few mods, to the MkV GT TDI Sport with DSG. To be honest, although the STi was a sub 5 sec car, the golf is a much better daily driver.

The torque is available from idle (almost) there is no lag (compared to the STi) and I get 900k's around town. I'm bloody happy with it.

The other car is an 06 Forester XT, it will eventually make way for another TDi I think (Tiguan or similar)

Take a test drive and see if you like it.
