LED driving lights : Legal?

This has been annoying me for ages.

Do all the Trevs driving round in HSVs with LED lights on the front come under the same law as the rest of us with normal driving lights.
ie can they be fined for using LED lights in normal driving conditions?

Geez those things are bright.

They are called daytime running lights (not driving lights) and yes I believe they are legal.

yup the HSV and Audi lights are legal....but if we use them they are illegal!! found that out last weekend when we were coming out of hillaries....coppers set up shop on the exit...a GTS went through no problem...my mate went through and he got a fine for having overuse of LED lights...which was just his parking lights !!

Was that what the fine was called?
"Over used of LED lights"?
Where is that defined as illegal in WA's road rules?

Parking lights are not the same as driving lights or fog lights.
Parking lights are required to be on at all times that the headlights are on.
Driving lights or fog lights must not be used with headlights on in traffic.

but what and why is the point that holden and audi decided to install driving lights??

gorotsuki69 13-06-2010 09:45 AM

as with most things I'd imagine it is up to the cop's discretion at the time.
If you were driving like a dick in an Audi you would probably get done for the lights

To sell more cars.
Some of their target market think they're cool.

Legal or not, it just looks like a freakin christmas tree!!
On a Audi R8 fair enough, you want to be seen, but on a Heap of Shit Vehicle, come on.

Ah no

Europe standards will require these from 2012 onwards iirc, thus audi got in on the act early

Holden are just wannabes on the trend
