Licensing a Hail damaged vehicle

Just wondering how hard it is to get a hail damaged car re-licensed?

Would have thought as long as windows, lights and mirrors are ok should be easy...does anyone know what the go is?

Can one be licensed with all the hail dents still on vehicle?

Cheers
Tim

my mate got his RX impreza licensed on the weekend

he reckons it was easy... passed within 5 minutes..
aslong all the lights work and no broken bits on the car

they didnt even look under the car aswell

hail damage is only cosmetic. Again, as long as lights work, no cracked windows and other parts of the car are legal (the usual like ride height, tint, noise level etc) i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be able to get it registered

Insurance is what you would want to look into...

They ( the pit inspectors) told me i had a loose muffler or some crap and i would have to replace the whole thing, turns out i just had to replace the resonator cause there were a few things loose inside it.

It took me many hours of calling up the pits to get an answer so i could book a time to see them but this was quite soon after all the cars were up for auction so they were really busy, i'm sure it wont be so bad now. All up it took me about 2 weeks to get plates put on mine

Also I don't think that you have to put it through a mechanical inspections test before taking it to the pits now, I had to do it for my car but it took ages so i think they just scraped that idea so all the cars could get through the system faster. It also saves you just about $400

May want to check if you bought at an auction as "a repairable write off", as it's my understanding that it's a full pit inspection plus to get it back on the road.

All you need to know is here http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1379.asp#special

My dad bought a Foz from the hail auctions. Had a cracked sunroof that he had to fix. Passed without a problem and still has all the dents in it for now. It is basically the same as passing a normal unlicensed car.

Thats what i thought. Figured as long as glass and lights are ok should be fine.

Thanks

Pretty sure you won't be able to insure it for any damage to itself. Can't see why you wouldn't be able to get 3rd party property on it but as posted above make sure you have an insurance option that you are happy with before you jump in.

Because I bought mine back off Shannons I have till it's rego is due and it's a cheaper inspection, I think they only check the hail damage of which I've sucked most out, not too sure if they treat auction cars any differently.
