Bummer

Maybe throw an ad out there for another 1TB Maxtor HDD of same specs or buy another if you know where you can get hold of one... depending on your hardware skills and bravado (not too difficult, maybe practice on an old 40GB or less HDD that you might have sitting in the cupboard), carefully take apart your unit, remove platters and install into good unit; if the platters are still ok there is a high chance it will all turn out sweet.

All does depend on importance of data, & sounds to me that you need the stuff back badly, specially the pics. Tech guys who do data recovery charge a fortune and would basically do what I've mentioned above.

Red face

Tried the frezzer trick after an hr or so in there and no go, the HDD is still making the "BRRR" sound ever 2secs.

So if Matt can't help me im sending it off to china to a family member who works with computers and see if he can recover it, postage there and back and a new drive will be a shite load cheaper than paying a local data recovery service.

Thanks to all those who gave me helpful info and tried to help out, much appreciated guys.

Wayne

When plugged into the SATA/PATA interface directly, check if it is being seen in the BIOS. If it is, use Spinrite to recover the HDD then copy the data to another HDD. Spinrite will try many times to get the data from a sector.

Wayne, if you can't get a normal desktop computer to try to access the contents of the hard drive, let me know and I'll be happy to help out.

Thumbs up

Old bump here, I never got around to plugging this into a PC etc and was going to take it to the little computer repair shop over at the Karawarra shops (Waterford Plaza) that a member mentioned before but I cant find his post or even remember his forum name.

So if anyone can remember who the member was that works there or finds his thread about the shop could you please post it up here as I want to get in contact with him.

Cheers,

Wayne
