Home DIY Artificial Lawn Install

I bit of a different modification than the norm. I recently did a home diy artificial lawn install and thought I would share the results. The old lawn / weeds were terrible and with the water shortage I figured it was time to do something about it.

My mate Matt and I embarked on removing the old lawn ( 6 cubic metres) with a dingo and skip bin then putting down a crusher dust base (compacted) before laying the new artificial lawn. All the lawn is down now and I just have to bring in some mulch for the remaining area and the job will be done. It came out well and by going diy saved about $4K.

thanks boys, I bought direct from a guy named Dave in Malaga. His company is called lazylawn and his web site is www.lazylawn.com.au

Very helpful guy who delivered as well. Price was best I could find and I chose his least expensive product that is designed for playgrounds, etc. I did the rear of the house in a more expensive and softer variety.

How is the artificial lawn held down to the ground? My biggest concern is that someone comes past whilst I'm on holiday and 'borrows' it.

Also, any reason you didn't do the shire strip?

American Dave 13-12-2010 11:10 AM

The lawn is held together with some serious tape and held down with some well placed u shaped stakes around the edge. In addition there is approx 15 kg of white sand covering every square metre. The verge is getting black plastic laid down and then mulch covering and native aussie plants that require little watering. I didnt see the point in doing anything more for the Stirling City Council as they do nothing for me.

Even if you could get the lawn up it would be very difficult to transport as the three pieces are 3.6 mtr wide and up to 7 mtr long.
