why would they want homeswest houses in suburbs so close to the city? surely it would be cheaper to go out further?

Where "they" are has little bearing on where issues can arise. In South Fremantle and have no Homeswest housing anywhere near us. However, we do have a pathway at the end of the street that heads towards Hamilton Hill, Spearwood, etc from South Beach. Summer is full of the games with many a day providing an opportunity to state:

"Why would you and your mates be cruising up and down a cul de sac road of less than 250 meters long?"

"Looking for a mate - who? I know everyone on this street."

"Oh wrong street huh!"

10 years and well over 50 break ins - we're all a bit over it. Between the car and the house I've been broken into 3 times.

The best advice I can give is get to know all your good neighbours, keep a watch on each other and respective property and be vigilant.
