Ben Collins will be gone. To be honest, he is a nothing. The Stig was 'his' paycheck.

As for the new Stig, I initially thought they would go for a 'no-namer' again. It's cheaper for them, and slips through when they have to put down the licenses for insurance etc. You start putting Sabine's FIA docs down so they can plan their stunts/races and word would get out quick smart. Heck, the stars in a reasonably priced car would just have to say 'she' and the cat would be out of the bag.

Thinking about it a bit more, they would be best to get someone high ranking on board as a consultant, and visually use them. Then have a few guys to dress up in the Stig suit whilst that person is on screen. That way people wouldn't care less that someone like Niko's name is down as a driver along with a couple of no-name drivers.

I'd personally love Tiff to be on the show, not hidden by a mask.

there is a connection between TG and Fifth Gear there somewhere because Tom Ford presents for FG and used to write for the TG Magazine.

Jason Plato as Stig????
Most likely to be an ex racer that isn't as well known. Part of Ben Collin's issue was he no longer had time for racing as well as the TG gig, so its unlikely to be someone who has a flatout racing career.

It wasn't a falling out.

The original Top Gear show was cancelled in 2001. The continuation of the show is Fifth Gear (shown on channel 5 in the UK). BBC didn't want to let go of the Top Gear name, which is why it is called Fifth Gear.

Clarkson then pushed the BBC into reformatting the Top Gear show into what we have now.

So I don't think it was every a falling out, just a scheduling conflict :D

I vote that the Stig ia actually Jme (aka Explicit). Has anyone else noticed that he has gone quiet on here?:)

Whomever the Stig is, part of the allure is not knowing, and the reason behind so much publicity as people speculate who the true identity of the Stig is.

TG is a much better show than FG.

Now if they could only make the Aussie one as entertaining.

Tiff has always been my favourite car journo for as long as I can remember watching car shows. One of my all time favourites "car tests" was when he introduced the world to the McLaren F1.

Who can forget the classic line "But what they will want to do, and what you've all been waiting for me to do, is, give it some stick" and then the roar of the engine and the sheer look of terror on his face?

Anyway back on topic: As much as I'd love Tiff to be the Stig I'm with Kato in that I'd much prefer him to be a presenter but while Fifth Gear is running that won't be happening so it'd make sense for him to put the white helmet on. As someone has already said, the only problem would be keeping him from talking for that long :)

No way will it be a current F1 driver - the teams would not release them to do such risky things during a season.

Accident -broken arm/leg - ruined investment of 200 million dollars for a season

Correct answer...THE Stig....a legend...

Bob 27-01-2011 12:07 PM

Yes. Like Webber damaging his arm in a mountain bike ride pre Suzuka. Shit happens.
But too many time constraints for F1 drivers during the season. I doubt the logistics would work. Unless they pre-record the fast laps in a couple of sessions and use a different driver for other Stig functions.
