agree, the money has to come from somewhere
even 850 dollars per year isn't that much compared to the enormity of the damage i wouldn't be too fussed knowing that the if i was a victim, the state would look after me

Apparently red cross has $100 Mil surplus from the Vic bushfires they don't know what to do with. Also there is a reason people have house and contents insurance. Suncorp has automatic flood cover.

Per year? Correct me if I'm wrong but this is a permenant fixture to our tax bill?
THis is bullshit, so according to the government we have an indefinet increase in tax of up to $850 pa to cover a once off event.

If a cent of this money goes to people with no or inadequate insurance I will not be happy. By that rational we should all cancel our car insurance and get a government handout if we have an accident.
Seriously it just all stinks of Julia trying to meet her election promises and we pay. Even tho Health, Education and Police/Emergency services have all suffered a lack of funding for years. I feel very sorry for the Queenslanders who have lost family, homes and livelihoods but taxing struggling middle Australia is not the solution.

personally, i dont think the money should go to the government then to the flood victims(course who knows if they will get 100% of that money)...they should start up a foundation just for them

I already pay a shit load of tax every year. Ease up on the handouts to other countries and put my money to use helping Australians.
Edit: just read that graph above, 1billion by delaying infrastructure projects?? What the fuck are they doing with the money?

That's my issue. I have no problem giving QLD a $1 per week for a year to help out, but the Government could ease up on foreign aid and their own fucking pay packet for a year.
