Car importing company help needed
Bit of a personal experience query or other info if anyone has some.
Has anyone used a car importer? who? easy/hard process? expensive? Any in Perth recommended more than the others? Would it be easier to import & comply the car yourself or is one of these companies fairly necessary in the process? Feel free to PM as well if you don't want to post here. |

I used prestige motorsport (www.prestigemotorsport.com.au) and imported a 300zx TT under the 15 year rule (about 2004 before the rules changed). Cost was $1,100 and for that they did very little. Basically I picked a car off their site, they told me who to pay (a third party), I organised the Forex transfer and they put it on the ship.
They did clearly state the process and suggest companies to organise the funds transfer and customs clearance. Other than missing the boat it was a fairly painless experience and the car was a gem.

Prestige bought in my S204 for the expat from Japan that owned it originally and he said he was extremely happy with the way they handled everything and would definitely use them again.
More info on what car you're thinking of bringing in is needed as different places specialised in different cars, for example if I was importing an EVO id only go through IMG in Sydney as they bring in the best EVO's for you and always make sure the ones they buy are in the best condition (grade 4).

Not a race/rally. Unless I get rich & buy one later.
Just looking at getting one for the new daily. Trying to figure out if it's worth buying one through these companies or buy one that's already complied & registered but with a higher price tacked on. |

Depends on the car and who hold the compliance ability for it.
Some models may only have one or two places in Aus that do it, and may not actually sell you the plate without doing the work themselves. Having a car here is a good thing - you can check it before purchase. Always a risk when buying off an auction site through a broker - especially one who doesnt actually inspect the car for you. The amount of times I watched cars get bid on that looked awesome in the pics only to arrive with scratches, dents, leaks and other shit broken is astounding. If you bring it in yourself youll wear the cost. Though I am not involved in the business one of my closest friends imports cars for a living so Ive seen many aspects of the game.
