Living in Perth - Owning a vehicle interstate
Before I trudge through pages of government department jargon, I thought I'd ask here if anyone's been in this situation before.
I live in Perth. That's where my postal and residential address is. However, I also have an apartment in Brisbane, where I spend at least half of every month. As I'm in Brisbane more and more these days, I need to do something about transport. I'm looking to buy a motorbike for myself and car for my Mrs and keep them over there (Brissy). Is there anything special/different I need to do? Or is it just a matter of buying the vehicle and registering it in my name at my address in Brisbane? Do I also need a QLD drivers license? Cheers guys and girls. |
As long as you have an address in Brisbane use that for registration. Regarding your license you are supposed to change your license when you live in a state within "6 months" (I think its 6 might be 3).
Considering that you are flying back and forth you would never be in the state for 6 months continuously. I had issue when I was in Byron Bay when I was in the equivalent situation for a 18 month period. The local cops got to know my face and started to give me some grief over my licence until I went to the station to show them my flights back and forth over the time. I'd suggest in Brisbane no police officer would get to know your face / car that well to notice. |

Utility bills be enough for proof of address? Obviously my DL has my Perth address on it.
I'd suggest in Brisbane no police officer would get to know your face / car that well to notice.
Challenge accepted. |
