Whilst I wouldn't suggest anyone with a squeamish disposition watches the show, the Four Corners report on beef abattoirs in Indonesia using a Halal method of killing was simply shocking.

I personally will not be eating any beef in Indonesia ever again unless I can satisfy myself that the beef came from Australian abattoirs and was processed into meat in Australia. Thankfully, I mainly go to Bali which is Hindu and where cows are sacred and "halal" slaughtering isn't the norm. Also I am aware that most large scale westernised establishments in Bali would not get beef from a local slaughterhouse.

I have had enough experience with cattle to know that any cow, let alone any other animal, does not deserve that form of treatment. I'm certainly not some bleeding heart animal activist, I love a good steak, but what was shown just simply should not occur. Animal welfare and appropriate slaughtering is paramount to me.

Edit - I hope that others could do the same and boycott eating beef in Indonesia.

While the report was distressing to some people, it didn't highlight how barbaric and inhumane halal slaughtering can be.

I don't understand why Halal they have to cut the throat. Maybe making the animal go through a shocking death makes it taste nicer, somehow, in their opinions.

Pretty sure a Halal Big Mac from Lidcombe in NSW takes exactly the same but. Pretty harsh stuff.
