Motorbike plastic repair
 

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone has attempted at fixing cracked motorbike plastics?

Reason being is im fixing up an old bike, and theres a few cracks, but i dont want to spend hundreds on it. Google has shown a few methods, from melting with a soldering iron (which im not overly keen on) to some 2 part plastic welding stuff which i havent seen anywhere.

What have you used, where did yu get it from and how well did it work?

I know there are places in perth that do plastic "welding" to fix this sort of thing, as
a mate had the same problem you do a few years back.

Might be worth joining a bike forum and asking the exact same question. When you
do post on the bike forum it may also be worth mentioning the type of bike since
not all plastic bits are the same... ie: Some smoke up, burn, and melt from different things.

Hey mate, i had to fix up some cracked plastic headlights. The stuff i used was 2 parts, the first part is like a very fine sand material that you pit on, then the liquid. The liquid part is pretty much like super glue. Within 5 -10 seconds the grains & liquid fuse together and its really strong.

You can sand it too, although it takes a fair amount of effort, as it does dry pretty bloody hard.

Its called :- beyond super glue Rapid Fix (2 bottles 1 red, 1 blue. about the size of an eye drop bottle) & I got it from Auto One in Morley. I am sure any Auto One shop would have it. Or possibly other Auto shops. Bunnings maybe???

I tried to DIY myself but was too much a head fark..
Me personally goto Perth powdercoaters in Belmont,
They did a bit of plastic welding for a fairing kit of mine. In the end they did a great job Definately recommend them!

Cheers for the input guys. Im down in bunno, so ill have a look to see if theres anywhere around that can do plastic welding cheaply. Failing that ill have a look for that stuff RoughStilin used.
