Transferring Data from iPhone to Mac

Hi All,

Has anyone got any idea how to get all information from my girlfriends old iPhone, onto her new Mac (her old PC is dead :( ), and then onto her new iPhone?

Im talking contacts, music, messages, photos, the lot.

Any particular software that this is possible to be done on?

Cheers

Sam

I think if you register the old iphone to the new computer and sync it with itunes (backup), and then register the new iphone to the computer you can transfer the old stuff to the new phone. That is what i did anyway (on a PC though). When i plugged in my new one it said something like "an iphone has already been registered "Carly's iPhone" do you want to transfer this to the new phone" or something to that effect.

No guarantees this is actually what happened - i may have remembered wrong but i'm fairly sure that's how it happened.

This may also help: iPhone: Transferring information from your current iPhone to a new iPhone

Good Luck!

Problem is you cannot sync or backup the old phone on a new iTunes..... it clears everything!
This makes me a sad Panda....

Anyone who solves my issue without me having to pay $25 for the full version of DiskAid V5 gets a free hug!

once you plug in the new phone, you should be able to right click on the phone icon on the lhs and select backup.

What are you trying to do, actually just have the phone backup to a new computer or physically transfer all the music from the phone to the new computer (so you can listen to it on the computer)?

If it is just a backup, you can do that on any computer without losing the data... Or just use iCloud to backup on the device itself without any need for a computer.

If it is option 2, I think last time I used Transfer iPod, backup iPod to Mac, copy iPod to Mac or something similar.

Im not too worried about the music as i can get that from the external hard drive back up of the fucked laptop. More just the rest of the iPhones data to the new iPhone.
I know the iCloud backup should work for contacts. But what about the rest of it. Messages, photos, etc that aren't covered by iCloud?

When i get home tonight ill give what Jamie has suggested a shot, fingers crossed it works!

ps: thanks for that link though John, that will definitely come in handy for something else i wanted to do!

I don't use iCloud, but from what I have read it can do what you are asking.

Im sure apple have released another ios called candycow for $6,999,99.95 just to do exactly what your asking it do.
