hahah fair enough! it's way different in the competitive cycling seen, those guys are proud of their lycra- and generally give people who wear clothes over lycra shit, so it's good to see different points of view |

haha I don't think I'm Cadel Evans and I don't see the need to clip clop around coffee shops with my package on show... I cycle as a means of transportation / for fitness / for fun... not to join a Sunday morning peloton in the tour de coffee shop, and then make everyone else uncomfortable by parading in my lycra whilst leaving my bike parked in the middle of the footpath!

Gold!
Yeah there are a few wankers about that think they own the coffee shop when they walk in with legs on show... Slightly off topic- but will 09 wrx rims fit over the 97 gc8 STI callipers? Last edited by Joshiemitsu; 03-03-2012 at 08:33 PM. Reason: Sti |

Curious for some insight from the pro/casual riders, looking at getting back into riding to get my fitness up a bit and possible lose a few extra kilos.
I currently have a Giant Talon (hard tail mountain bike) and I'm trying to figure out if it is worthwhile getting rid of the offroad tyres and getting some road type tyres on there. Or should I be looking at getting a bike more suited to cycling?

I had a talon too. Then I bought an avanti flat bar road bike. I rode about 700km on that before attempting to ride to the beach (2km each way) on my talon again. Msgd Flett when I got home and asked if he wanted to buy it. If u ride a purpose road bike, you'll see the difference.

Keep the MTB Soksta. Put some slicks on it and pump the tyres up to maximum.
At least you will have the choice later to do the hills loop, unlike all of the roadies. I'm keen for a cycle. Got a heavy as MTB with full suspension and shoes, pedals...

I'd go for a road bike, you don't need and expensive one to feel a massive difference.
It's far more about geometry and drivetrain than tyres. Some bikes shops sell nice used road bikes, I'd reccomend going into Glen Parker's in Nedlands if you are looking to get one. They have nice range of new and used, will fit you up properly on the right sized bike and won't rip you off in te process. |

Get as much of a workout riding a heavy MB for a shorter distance than a Road bike long distances.

On XC I'd top out at about 35-40kph. Decent road bike gearing you should see that speed on middle gearings. Like comparing a 4WD with rcomps up against your WRX. Kym if you're keen to protect your image try a pair of these.... 2012 Fox Racing Giant Ranger Mountain Bike Shorts | Bike Reviews I have same same from FOX racing. Very comfortable for long ride with usual padding for butt etc but look like shorts.
