Default Speeding Fines

I finally open the dreaded O.H.M.S. letter that came today, lost my last 3 points.

Now the questions I have for people who have gone though this before, are;

If I pay my fine on the final due date of the final demand notice 15/05/06, how long until I am asked to hand in my lisence?

Is it worth defending myself in court against a radar, single highway partol office, I was overtaking a road train. Worth it?

I am going overseas at the end of june anyway for 10 weeks so losing it is not a massive issue but hoping not to miss to Bourne cruise

You will be cutting it fine but you shouldn't miss the cruise.

You are served a notice after that saying you need to hand in your license.

Once you pay the fine, the cops come around your house to pick up your license. If you're not home, they will ask you to drop it off to your nearest licensing centre.

They came around my house about 2-3 weeks after I paid my fine, but I wasn't home at the time (actually remember them turning down my street as I was leaving the house)

if you want to delay it more... opt for court and they will send you the "statement of material facts".. then a court appearence date..

just call up infringement management and tell em you changed your mind and then pay up the fine.

They came to my work to collect my license and make me sign when I lost it

cheers for all the advice guys.

I'm already on the $12.50 final demand notice. I'll pay it last minute and hope it takes them a while to get around to taking it back.

Fingers crossed!

It can take up to a month from when you pay to when they come and collect it.

When i racked up a few fines in one week, i paid them all upfront and the first 2 went thru within a day or two, but the bigger one took longer. In the end i got sick of waiting and a police mate, served me my paper work starting immediately.

The first time my brother had couple of blokes drop around early one morning within a week. Time after it was heaps longer. Luck of the draw i guess.

Loosing your license sucks and IMHO if you hand it in the day its due, you may miss the cruise (but can always whore) and that way your holidays should take up a big chunk and you wont miss driving so much.
