Default Lemon law?

Hey guys, I'm asking on behalf of my friend who just sold a car. The seller just sold the car a couple of days ago and yesterday, the buyer rang up and said that there is some stuff that needs fixing.

The buyer insists that the seller should either refund the money back to the buyer and get the car back or bare half the repair bill. The thing is, the money has been handed over and there was no contract between them. The buyer has handed in the transfer of ownership slip already as well.

Can the buyer actually make such demands? As far as I know, once the sale has gone through, anything that happens after that is the buyer's responsibility, not the seller. Am I right or wrong?

yeah you're right...

Buyer beware... Tail light warranty. Once you see them, it's expired.

This is why you should get the car mechanically checked before you hand over any money!

If the car was working fine and a couple of faults have been found, I don't think the buyer has any right to demand anything of the seller.
Did they clarify what needs to be fixed?
Parts fail, they some times fail at the most annoying time, but that is life.

Caveat emptor!

Yeah like Kym said, they should have gotten a mechanical inspection done. This saved me from buying a lemon Hilux Surf years ago!

Can the buyer refuse to hand in the transfer of ownership slip? Would that affect anything?

not sure but if the seller has already sent in the slip and the buyer doesn't send thiers in.... they will get a fine for $100 slapped onto thier transfer fees for not sending the form in, once they have handed the money over & the car is in thier possession the deal is done, transfer of ownership is not a legally binding contract they can opt out of, as long as your mate has all his details & all thier details & both signatures on the form & sent it in there is no recourse
