EoP seems alright these days. Not exactly GigE, but it does pretty good for what it is and is probably somewhat under-rated.

I would only use it for home though, not business. (obviously)

Is it because businesses tend to have 3 phase power, and the gpo's are generally spread across some/all the phases?

Maybe for a home business, soho. Probably should have replaced the word business with enterprise.

Yeah, I get that, just heard a couple of people say they wouldn't use them in a business environment.

Just curious why? Hardware limitations etc? Given that a lot of small/medium business will run 100mbit cable and/or wireless connections, I'm curious why someone wouldn't recommend them.

After initially being told how shit they were by IT people and using them to find out they are pretty darn good, I'm quite interested in them!

Yeah they are good for what they are. They are aimed at home use though. Just like all the Netgear, D-Link stuff. Anyone who thinks Netgear and D-Link stuff is enterprise grade is kidding themselves imo.

I guess being in the IT side for a large company, we'd just spend the coin and get it done properly. Cable via Cat 6 back to patch panels into enterprise-class Cisco's.

They also don't give a guarantee of speed, it's best effort, like ADSL. There could be a chance of interruption, degredation, packetloss - Can't afford any of that on a network which also carries voice.

They aren't an enterprise class device, un-supported hardware etc from an internal point of view. I'd get killed if the network manager found out we'd created a sub-network via those things.

I'm just used to being able to spend big on the nice stuff, so these just aren't even on the radar for us. Great for people who don't want to wire their homes but still want better speed than wireless.
