Casey Stoner announces retirement from Moto GP
motogp.com · Stoner announces retirement at end of 2012
Just saw this on Facebook, Quite a shock as he is so young but I guess being a new Dad and having to spend so much time away from his family would be hard. Thoughts? |

Many athletes, actors, businessmen etc have to spend alot of time away from family, and manage fine. So I do think that's a factor, like he said, he isn't enjoying it anymore- to be honest I think he is probably a bit bored of it also.
I'd be willing to put money on seeing Stoner in a V8 Supercar within the next few seasons. He's spent quite alot of time around them, and I believe he even did some testing with team Vodafone. |

Sad to hear. Hope he goes out as World Champion.

I would say probably a combination of factors, family, maybe boredom too.
He's been on the circuit since he was what, 16?

I think his dodgy wrist has something to do with it to.
Cant get the strength back into it anymore.

He's long been a critic of the rule changes in latter years, "fell out of love with the sport" sounds like frustration to me. Cant really blame him, small field and only three main manufacturers equalls the death of a sport.

Moved to Europe at 14 as he could race there at that age. Been "on tour" ever since. Could wear a little thin after about 12 years, especially racing at the level he is at with the dedication he shows Money no longer a problem. Body reasonably in tact. Hot wife. On track for another world championship. Not a bad time to go out on top despite the fact he clearly could nail more world championships. Reading between the lines, it seems to be more about changes in the sport than him losing passion or having family concerns.
Have gained much respect for the moaner in recent years as he has really shown what a talent he is largely through Rossi's failure to do anything on a bike that he won a championship on and also the way he dominated last year.....and his epic sliding skills. Will be a loss to the sport but at least it might be slightly easier for Rossi to get into the top 10 now if he stays on .

His "whining" is usually very well justified. He talks about safety. These guys really do risk their lives for our entertainment and the promoters just want to see more speed etc. But it just gets too fast.
