Which gaming laptop??
Hey folks,
My old Asus G73JH has crapped itself, so it's time to get a new one. Doing a little research on the net, and seen the Asus G75VW here: ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS G75VW Thoughts? Searching the usual suspects i.e. the Alienware M18x, and the latest Toshiba's, but before i commit I thought i'd ask to see if anyone had any opinions/experiences. I'm looking to spend $2-3000, must be capable to run the latest games (for when i'm at work), with at least 1TB internal HDD (with a SSD a bonus).

Spend it on fishing gear/car parts instead

haha Sam, i don't even own a car anymore driving an STX Navara around from work
Fishing gear will also get some love in the next few weeks.. hoping for a decent tax return! I looked at the M18X, and built a few variations. I'll have a chat to them as they tend to drop the price dramatically if you question them. As it stand an M18 would be north of $3500 in the spec i want... And i'm not sure its justified if i can get the G75VW for $2k.

I've got a toshiba satellite p750-05f ,2nd gen i7 CPU, 8 gb ram, 2gb gt540 nvidia.
Plays everything I throw at it in nvision 3d (dirt, crysis, cod etc) without breaking a sweat. The qosimo "gaming" version has a larger screen, ssd & larger hdd.

Rossco, Did you get it from the Antenna place in Osbourne Park?
They sell Grade A refurbs for super cheap, and they upgrade them too. Might have to go have a look around.

Mine was brand new from JB hifi osborne park.
Forgot to mention it has an inbuilt HD tv tuner too. The Qosimo lappies are a little higher spec (bigger screens & ssd/hdd options) but I didn't want anything larger to carry around on trips overseas - mine's 16" & it has native HDMI 1080 24p with 8 channel audio - if I want to use it to drive my home theatre (in 3d too).

If you want portability avoid the M18x - My brother has one and it is a BIG machine with a big power pack, so pretty heavy if you fly around a lot.

If you want to actually sit down and play. I'd recommend you get something far more powerful for the same price. ie desktop. Mine is a bit over a year old now. i7 980x 6 core 3.3ghz (have overclocked to 5ghz before, safely), liquid cooling, 12Gb ram 1333hz, nvidia GTX 460 1Gb x2 running in SLI, 2x 1TB HD, blu ray burner, 23" 1080x1920 full HD 3D alienware monitor with 3D vision kit. Can't forget the alienware keyboard and mouse. Also turtle beach 5.1 mw3 headset.
Get something like that and you will never want to part with it. Also benefits of desktop = can upgrade without buying a whole new system! |
