Installed similar system mate however it was a known brand..... And twice the price of that one. Cameras are cheap and easily upgraded the DVR is the important part really. Be aware that with those cameras mounted by your front door for instance at night you wouldn't be able to make out any defining features about a vehicle or person at the curb. Great for the day time. Unfortunately with all camera related items you generally get what you pay for.

Definitely true about you get what you pay for.

I just installed a IP-PoE Security Camera system at home using Geovision dome cameras, which is why I think it's important not to get cheap ebay spec cameras. You want to get as good as you can afford.

I got these and they are pretty good.

These are $550 a piece.

My DVR is a a dedicated PC, which also supports iPhone/Android connectivity over 3G. Also get Emails on motion etc.

Here is a pic of the quality: (not played with the focus or anything, this it out of the box)

What did your kit cost you Rich?

RichX 29-07-2012 06:23 PM

Depends how you want to look at it. From zero to what I have now, a bit.

This is because the house has been fully wired with Cat6 back to the store room where I have a cabinet.

If you don't include that,

2x Geovision's @ $550 a piece.
1x DLink Gigabit PoE managed switch, $400
1x Slim PC from work $free
1x XProtect S/W Licence, $free (for everone) - Search XProtect Milestone System
1x Day of tuning the software, motion detection, 3G access etc.

Got Prospeed electrical to do the ethernet runs for me.

Call it around $1700, but all done properly, and all works awesomely well with all the cool features.

Prior to that I had about $2000 worth of Cat6 wiring done throughout, and the rack etc.

If anyone needs any help or advice, drop me an email

My completed cabinet after all done:

This has my PS3, Xbox, PC's, Security Cameras, WAPs etc all coming back here.

Would appreciate a link or details on where to buy this camera at that price.
Also, are you still happy with your setup ? any advice or changes you've made since posting this ?
