Default Best Roads / Drives in Australia

(Thought a separate thread from the Perth drives would be good. Please add any other good roads/drives in the country)

One of my favourites: Mt Buffalo, Victoria.

In another thread, I mentioned when I picked up my "new" 2004 WRX in Melbourne in April, before driving it home to WA, I did a bit of touring and drove up Mt Buffalo, near Bright, in North-East Victoria. Had done this drive before, but in the WRX it really was fun, even at modest and legal speed limits. Approx 1200 metres climb in 20 kms. Besides this particular road, this area of Victoria is definitely a recommendation for a touring holiday. Unfortunately I didn't think to take photos of the road itself, but I found these links to a guy who did it on a motor bike trying to set some sort of PB, but you get the idea of this great road. Put it on your list!

Mt Buffalo Part 1 - YouTube

Mt Buffalo Part 2 - YouTube

These videos cover the whole climb. Don't even ask me why the 2 cars are parked on the double white lines at the start - WA does not have a mortgage on idiot drivers.

Also some of my photos taken from Mt Buffalo, the old chalet is now closed, but is a great building. Note that in winter it is required to carry snow chains even if it is not snowing - can hire from local shops.

Cheers.

Macqurie Pass in NSW. Done it a few times in 2 of my previous cars, unfortunately the only time I did it in my new subi, I had a car load of bags and crap (and the mrs) as it was on my first day of my leg to perth so couldn't drive it hard.

3-4 hairpin turns (2 or 3 of them are very tight)

Unfortunately there can be a lot of traffic on there at times as trucks do use it and they have to do 3 point turns on some of the bends.

Macquarie Pass Run - YouTube (not my video)
There's probably a few better vids out there on bikes as it's a popular ride for them.

Edit: Link of a bike coming back down

Worlds End Road, Robertstown, SA. The Robertstown Rally, as part of the SARC held a stage along that road for many years, and it was a brilliant stretch.

Anywhere in the Byron Bay hinterland. Possum Creek Road being one of my faves between Coolamon Scenic Drive and Bangalow.

Lived at one end and worked at the other, few pot holes and bumps but awesome fun on the R1.

A much better commute to work than most can say they have.
