One of the big differences between car manufacturers in Australia Vs those in other countries is the ownership. All Aussie car makes are owned offshore. Therefore all profits leave the country. We have continued to subsidise the automakers to maintain jobs on the premise that these workers return the money via taxation. The net effect is a system to syphon funds offshore.

While the article pointed out that the numbers quoted aren't relevant, it is not very useful when we still don't know what the relevant numbers are.

The reason for posting it was to inform that Bill Shorten is a lying prick ...

(I'm not sure if they asked the government for money but if they did the following applies to them also)

Why should our tax be going to a company that can't stand on its own two feet?
You would think Holden would have said, "Oh look $200 mil, lets use this to find ways to make our production cheaper"

Instead of just running like normal, hoping that the market would get better.
+ The fees that Holden would have been getting from GM (not sure if correct but i have 0 doubts) would have taken all the profit away.
That's just how companies work.

I have worked for companies before that were owned outside of Australia. They took ALL of our profit in fees so we looked broke (less tax?)

For an Australian Auto company to be successful it has to be fully Australian owned, and make some actual good cars.

(^ could be 100% with all of this)

Toyota are one of the best manufacturers at Kaizen costing in the world, if they couldn't manufacture vehicles here cost effectively no one can no matter how much money you throw at them.

And the rest of your statements do not have one lick of sense or truth to them

One thing I did like, the Global President of Toyota made the announcement. In my mind it just shows it's a big deal for them and not something they took lightly
