Hopefully they'll drop the luxury car tax and import restrictions too.

I believe not. Here in SA we have had a few news reports insinuating the state gov is attempting to lure other manufacturers to the Elizabeth Holden plant once they say adios.

If GM, Ford, and Toyota, 3 of the worlds biggest makers, are all getting out, who is going to want to step in, unless its some niche brand with a no tax deal or something

The local market is very small and I don't believe for a second that there are any other car makers even remotely interested in making cars in Australia. Why would you ?

If they do it will be in phases unless they want to kill the resale value of 2nd hand cars AND new car purchases once the decision is released until the date of the change.
