Mislabeled Fuel Bowser Pump?

Just thought I'd see if anyone has experienced this...

I filled up on Wednesday last week at a Coles Express servo with 98RON, but my fuel consumption and seat of the pants dyno makes me believe I was actually given something else with a lower octane rating instead (95 or 91).

Has anyone had this occur to them? If so, did you do anything about it?

I have the receipt for the fill up, which includes the bowser number on it, but I have already refilled my tank. I plan on having a chat to the staff next time I go there to ask them about it, but thought I'd see what others experiences are first.

You have already added fuel to the fuel you thought was 91-95?

You want to chat to the staff who give no fcks about the product coming out of the bowser, but only that they are getting paid every 2nd Thursday?

Good luck with your claim.

thehowlfactor 30-04-2014 08:22 PM

Most of the staff are just glorified checkout operators. If you want to speak to someone you would probably need to speak to the manager or someone responsible for quality control and checking the accuracy of the pumps. Most likely that would be someone at the head office.

Yeah I finished the tank and so had to refill. I figured I'm sure as hell not gonna fork out to go get my fuel tested so there is no need to keep a sample.

I figure the only way I will be able to get compo will be if they have had other complaints and they found that the wrong fuel was being given out.

Yeah these kinds of situations you don't really have a leg to stand on....they will dismiss it

"hi, I have no proof or idea, but my car kinda felt slower with a full tank of fuel, give me money"

amtrapid 30-04-2014 08:42 PM

Had a claim years ago for water in diesel at a country servo but it happened to a shit load of us at the same time . Was paid cost of repairs. But I had engine damage and claimed through my insurance who delt with it .Ends up the in ground tank was stuffed . Was also back in the day when the owner of the servo gave a shit because he was a small business not some global chain.

Sorry thought this was the '' things that make you LOL thread''

MikeRX99 30-04-2014 09:10 PM

Check for a faulty dugong in tank or on bonnet. Back to topic

LOL

I learned from the best in the game...

If what u suspect is true then the operator would be in some hot water. But u have no way to prove it. If its keeping u up at night get in contact with the head office and let them know your suspicions saying u will get the fuel tested if it happens again or not get fuel from them again. I can tell - like u - the difference in the way my Caldina feels when on 95 or 98 fuel (Jap import designed for 100 tho)so don't let others make u think ur nuts.

andrew_rs 01-05-2014 08:34 AM

Solid digs guys. Thanks for the advice ALLPAWS and howlfactor, I'll start off by talking to the servo staff first and go from there.

teejay 01-05-2014 09:07 AM

You realise janawani shindu the operator hasn't got a clue?

The truck drivers fill the tanks at the servo, for them to get it that wrong would of been noticed given they carry 10 times more regular unleaded than premium.

Well aware the counter staff probably do not know, but they will hopefully have the number for the manager who might.

Damo69 01-05-2014 09:22 AM

janawani shindu will convert the sale by offering you 8 packs of gum for 30 cents

Bob 01-05-2014 09:26 AM

Fuel consuption will vary with traffic conditions, the way you drive, type of driving, ambient temps etc...
Butt dynos are like opinions. Useless.

Given you have no facts for your claim, It should make for an interesting conversation at the counter.

If there was any real proof, or engine damage then it would be worth pursuing.

Put it in the "But did you die?" catagory, fill up elsewhere and move on.

and the dumb keep getting dumber!

You know the WA manager also looks after supermarkets and only gives a shit about budgets.

b32 01-05-2014 09:58 AM

The guy is just asking a simple question, not everyone is all knowing like you guys.
The guy is just asking a simple question, not everyone is all knowing like you guys.
Purchased product, consumed product, no factual evidence that said product was not of the prescribed quality, cleared system of product, want to complain about product to janawani shindu who will at best refer you to the manager/owner who will look at you like you're a retard.

Nothing to see here move along.
The guy is just asking a simple question, not everyone is all knowing like you guys.
its not being all knowing its shooting it down with logic

doesnt want to do an actual test on the fuel to confirm either way, expects a global oil company to take his word for it on his seat of the pants dyno

fucking genius

at best they would reimburse you the difference between 91 or 95 and 98

so you would gain about $5

infact do it, give the O&G legal team a giggle
they would be so stressed out after sueing the tribes of the congo, they could use a good laugh

but start with jahmal at the console

andrew_rs 01-05-2014 10:12 AM

I think a lot of people are missing the point of why I made this thread.

I was just curious as to whether others had experienced this in their time behind the wheel, and how often things like this happen.

Seems a bit disrespectful to me that people are flat out calling me "dumb" for posting a question that I thought would lead to a valid discussion.

mARC 01-05-2014 10:15 AM

And in todays' episode of PWX we crucify businesses with no factual evidence.

teejay 01-05-2014 10:43 AM

Im not being a karnt I am just busy at work so not going to sit here and explain a logical straight forward answer.

pmh 01-05-2014 12:05 PM

if it takes effort to be a karnt
then you're not a karnt
