[I]"In an Australian-first, June 22nd will see the historic streets of Albany, WA turned in to the ultimate downhill battleground for the inaugural THULE – Albany Urban Downhill.

The first ‘urban’ race of its kind for Australia, the THULE Albany Urban Downhill will see armour-clad racers burst onto the streets of Albany, riding a purpose-built course as if they were flying down the side of a mountain – only this will be on the streets of Albany – making it the ultimate spectator event!

With over 22 purpose built features – from kickers taking riders up onto shipping containers, to curved-wall-rides that enable competitors to maintain speeds up to 70kph thru their turns – the race will descend from the bush trails of Mount Clarence just above town and culminate with a jump off the pedestrian overpass on the Albany foreshore making it one of the most exciting events in Australian Mountain Biking.

Boasting one of the biggest prize pools for a mountain bike event in Australia, Thule was stoked to get on board as a sponsor with their man-on-the-ground in WA, Anthony Killorn noting, “We’ve seen other “urban” races online, but with picturesque Albany as the backdrop we can see this event being like no other. The strong community feel about the event should bring another dimension with the guys at the Albany Mountain Bike Club creating epic jumps and obstacles. The crowd should be pumping.”

Of adding Thule Australia to the mix, the TAUD’s Race Director, David Marshall said, “Having a major national sponsor has taken the event to the next level. The combination of national and local sponsors is making this event something special for Albany and it will certainly be a spectator event not to be missed. And with a combined amount of cash & prizes over $8,500, the event is drawing top amateurs, sponsored professionals and riders from all around WA and further afield.”

The event will also boast a jumps comp on Saturday June 21st from 7pm. Competitors will launch off the pedestrian overpass, whipping their bikes sideways in an acrobatic display. A party atmosphere is assured with lightshows, music and all a stroll away from Albany’s best café’s.

Registrations for the THULE Albany Urban Downhill close May 15th and with a limited field, the event is expected to sell-out quickly.
