have you riden a 450cc or 250cc two stroke motorcross bike? Do you think you really need one? they are pretty zippy...2 strokes are better value, cheaper and just as quick. for 6K look at any 450cc MXer, probably round 00-02 models... edit, are you after a quad or a MX bike? All above relates to MX bikes..

Talking as a ex-motocross racer I suggest nothing over 250cc Four Stroke. They are the WRX of the MX scene. A 450cc will pull your arms off and be very hard to control, thus you will not have as much fun.
The 250cc four stroke will allow you to enjoy the ride with more power than you will ever need. Trust me I used to race a YZ450F, great bike but a real animal of a power band. My pick of bike would be a Yamaha YZ250F 03-04 as I have owned 2. Also look at the Kawasaki KX250F 04-05 had one of these too. All these bike should be around the 6K mark. Buy private and save over $1500 from what the bike shops charge. Check the Quokka.

definatly 4 stroke 250.... 125s are revvy little bastards and extremely quick, but u have to keep them in the powerband and they can be a bitch to ride. 450s are just too powerfull

I would recommend the Yamaha Raptor YFZ660R, Honda TRX400 or the Suzuki LTZ400 these will be more beginner orientated and are not to far off the performance of the YFZ450 but I am sure you will have to go just over your 6k budget for these. Don't also forget the factor in what other costs involved in owning one a helmet, boots, gloves, MX pants and jersey etc this is going to cost you around 1k plus you need transport (trailer?) and mainteince products. Importantly bring someone who knows a fair amount about bikes along when looking at 2nd hand bikes if your new to bikes, you don’t get service history with these as you do with cars I learnt the hard way when I bought my first quad over 10 years ago. It would also be a good idea to get proof of ownership from the seller or check the VIN number as heaps of off road vehicles get stolen. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions Last edited by Sethor; 09-07-2006 at 08:53 PM. |
