Default Editing car photos

Hey Guys,

im wanting to edit some pictures i.e make black and white backgrounds and covering parts of the picture.

What programs do people use? And is it a hard thing to learn?

I use adobe fireworks, but only because I got it for free so many years ago. It's like a simple photoshop - no where near as complex, but has the downside of less features, and is a very bulky installation.

Not hard to learn but like any program use it to learn it.

gimp (minds out of the gutter, people) is a free picture editor, pretty powerful. Kind of like an old version of photo shop

a good thing to research is levels and layer masks. Really handy for adjusting colours and white balance. I'm a very novice editor but with just those two things you can make a quite average photo look pretty good

Take it a step back from Photoshop and get a copy of Lightroom, it is mostly for subtle changes to light settings but really comes into its own if you shoot in RAW. the advantage is it is also made by adobe and allows direct export into Photoshop without loss of picture quality or introduction of noise when you are ready to take editing to the next level.

I have found any changes i need to do i can in lightroom and it has a fantastic layout great for beginers, but full capabilities that almost all professionals use it.

Most photos I've seen through light room tend to look like they have a vignette affect, subject is bright, but all over, its a bit "foggy"

What you're seeing is user error/poor choices, nothing to do with the program output in regards to image quality.
