Default Home Insurance claims

Hey guys hoping someone on here can give me some info/advice.

The ceiling in my garage is dropping/pulling away from the frame work and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and did their insurance company paid out on the claim.

In a nut shell if I call the insurance company and get them to
look at it would I be able to claim it or would I not be able to claim due to me knowing about the problem and not fixing it myself.

I hope this makes sense, any info or experience's would be a great help.

Cheers Thommo

Nope, they wont. Unless it was caused by storm damage or some other incident. Regular wear/tear or deterioration over time is not covered.

as above they will only cover storm damage, and most request you to send a few pics by email rather than send an actual assessor out. So if the ceiling "looks" like it has storm damage e.g water stains hint hint.... there's a good chance they will pass it. Just check back on when Perth had a bad storm and put that date down, and the tradies who quote have to put down storm damage on the quote too.

As above, get someone out to quote on repairs and in their report to state it is a result of storm damage, with small claims they won't even send an assessor.

It is all about what you say, with the direct insurers the truth is a dish best served in entree portions as most/all of the people at the end of the phone don't have a clue about insurance and are just there to take details which they enter into a computer to get an answer.

I am not saying to lie as that could get you into a lot of trouble and also myself. If the builder says it was storm damage then who are you to argue with a professional.....

And remember to remove all of these replies once the claim has gone in :P
