Default help phone virus

help.

so i was looking at stuff on my phone and now it has some crazy phone virus.

it is locked on a screen and you can not get off it. if you power off, and restart the phone, it starts normal, then after a few seconds the screen pops up. Once the screen is up. the phone is virtually useless. you cannot do anything. It says some bogas federal police / interpol crap saying you are accused of looking at child porno etc. it has my 2 most called contacts listed as 'people to intergate'. it takes a selfie photo of you as the 'accused'. and that you are under investigation and you are locked out. also various info like the phone make model and serial number and your phone service etc. and then goes on to tell you some bullsh1t legal crap about child porno laws and video piracy. It has various police logos etc, and actually looks pretty legit, until you scroll down...

it says you have been given a $200 dollar fine that you must pay in 48hrs. In order to pay, it says you must go to a shop and buy $200 worth of apple itunes credit, and enter the code into the screen. and the phone will be unlocked. It also tells you all the stores in your area that sell the credit.

I know its bullsh1t because firstly. I dont watch child porno. (just your regular amatuer scat, beastiality, snuff, double fisting type stuff) And since when do police fine you for looking at child porno? Isnt that usually a jail sentance? And I never paid a speeding fine etc in Itunes credit either.

Phone is an old galaxy S3. because my s6 is in for repairs. Is there a way to do a hard reset or something. I need this phone for work (and streaming porn)

Try this.

The phone will need to be turned off first.

Press and hold the Home button, the Volume up button and the Power button. Keep the buttons held down until the Samsung logo appears. Scroll to wipe data/factory reset by pressing the Volume down button. Scroll to Yes -- delete all user data by pressing the Volume down button.
Out of curiosity, if you remove the sim card and turn off your wireless modem/router, does the message still come up?

thanks. I think that will be a last port of call. I do want to keep the rest of my data if possible

It seems this is some sort of app that automatically starts up on powering the phone. and it somehow blocks the home key, menu key and back key from working. you can swipe down from the top to access the top option panel. but as soon as you try anything from there the app goes back to the front of the display and you are locked again.

Im researching what to do on line now on the laptop. apparently its called a ransom ware and it holds your phone ransom until you pay it off. im trying to boot to safe mode and uninstall it now. but apparently it calls itself all kinds of names, so trying to identify which app to delete can be difficult. (especially because this is an old phone im using and i dont know whats supposed to be on here in the first place)

apparently sometimes just typing in a random sequence of numbers into the bit where you enter the i tunes code can trick it into thinking youve paid.

what a load of bullshit.

so the typing numbers into the coupon area doesnt work. its onto you and it only gives you 3 chances. i dont want to find out what happens after that.

so far ive booted in safe mode and one at a time started deleting random apps. then poering on and seeing what happens. so far its still there and ive deleted all the suspect looking apps already?

Under certain circumstances you can connect the phone to a PC and using Android Debug Bridge you can delete specific .apk files (applications container basically), it might be worthwhile to see if this is possible with your specific phone model.

Might also need to have USB debugging enabled on the phone which is typically off due to it being a developer option =/

Have you looked on the XDA forums?
They tend to be the modern day bible on all things Android these days.

think ive got it? i deleted an app called 'samsung update' and then rebooted and its not there.

The app had the little android type picture and kinda looked like an official thing. but i deleted it anyways and its working.

Now im wondering what what all those other things i deleted do?

Could have taken a note of the name and then done a google search.
Either way, hopefully its gone!

If it is gone in the mean time, it might be worth while looking at finding a way to backup your data should something like this happen again.

MyBackup Pro works nicely, Titanium Backup is better but you will need to root the phone (requires root access).
Plenty of guides floating around (at least a few on XDA).

Do you any antivirus on the s3 or s6? If not, it's definitely recommended.

The malware may have done more than just lock the phone. If there is any service you have used on the phone involving passwords you should get them changed (eg: facebook, twitter etc). If you have used the phone for banking around the time of infection, it may have also stolen your creds for the bank. Ring the bank and let them know, get your codes reset and remove the banking app.
