the key to their lifetime is moving all insulation well away from the downlight and the transformer because they produce a crap load of heat.

as for a gpo id say your lookingat between 80-100 dollars per gpo, installed

Agree - the heat is ridiculous from low voltage halogens

I have put mine onto a dimmer to stop from sweating under them.

LED downlights are another option - Less heat and a different kind of light (Desireable to some).

I bought some (Mirrabella) and then took them back - very dim so could hardly tell if they were on and at $15 each - dimmer works well.

hopefully over time they'll improve and get cheaper
