Import tax question
As I understand goods bought overseas for $1000+ attract 10% GST plus 5% customs fee (10% customs fee for automotive parts).
I about to buy an exhaust for roughly $700 and the shipping is about $350 from Japan, with the total price over $1000 would I have to pay tax because of the shipping cost or is it only the item price that you are taxed on? Cheers. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk |
Nope, you pay on the total including shipping.
So $1050 + 10%= $1155 +10%= $1306, plus whatever misc costs they can think of. |
Ask the seller if they are willing to lower the value of the exhaust on the shipping form.
Which place are you buying it from? |
Nengun, they said they won't alter the cost price but can insure it for 50% which they reckon customs goes by but if anything happens to it then I only get 50% of the price back.
When I asked them about taxes they said they don't know the taxes and fees for every country in the world, even though they know I'm Australian and they are Australian too I thought they would have some idea. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk |
How about invoices and receipts for the $700 and the $350 separately.

Normally the shipping is considered a service and they will add it to the cost of the item, they tried pulling that with me when I got some tyres delivered from the UK a few years ago. Tyres and shipping came in at $978 AUD so they couldn't get me and tyres were released once they had a copy of the sales invoice (which was actually attached to all four tyres). |

I bought some $2k worth kf parts from them before in one order. Slipped in under the radar no worries. |
Try RHD Japan as they did it a few times for me and are generally cheaper than every other online Japanese parts store.
|
Yeah. RHDJapan is a good store too. But Nengun is cheaper on some things. And the shipping quotes vary wildly between the 2, even on the exact same part. So shop around.
