This is shot at 300mm, ISO 200, f8, 1/1000 sec on a fast moving helicopter, should be ok with a AUS$1800 sigma f4 50mm - 500mm Last edited by slappy; 27-08-2006 at 06:49 PM. Reason: spelling |

yer it depends on how much u want to compromise on the quality of your shots I guess, but i wouldn't touch anything slower than F/4.5, certainly not F/8. unless u want to pre-focus and pan ur shot, but then u can't be sure about the quality till u get back and see the pics.
also depends on the sky and cloud cover. a sunny bright day with little cloud cover you will get away with F/4 and maybe a bit slower, but a F/2.8 would be crispy clear with full frame. check this out ... http://www.richard-seaman.com/Photo...hows/index.html and btw - i think the heli picture is slighty underexposed whilst the shutter speed is too quick and the blades don't form a circle. ideally, u'd want the picture to show full rotation of blades, with perfect exposure to the belly of the heli for a crispy clear image (slower shutter). The only problem is if u have a slower shutter speed, it's harder to get a clearer image and makes it worse if you're far away with a big chunky zoom that has a small max aperture. so in a way, u've proved the limitations of the lens by showing the picture... but if you're happy with it, all good

Thats just a throw away shot from one of the rally australia heli's. My point is if you can shoot 1/1000 @ f11 (with a badly set circular polariser filter as that one is) you can get fast enough shots @ f4 without a 12k lens.
The proof will be in the pudding though so I'll post some shots from the event with my new gear. Can you repost that link again, I'm always learning so I'd like to check it out. Cheers for the info. I guess most people from here will be there, I cant wait. |
