IPOD dramas - any ideas
I have a gen 4 20gig ipod and it suddenly seems that it is addicted to smoking its own pole.
It just jams up and gets so f$%king hot you can hardly handle it. Even though it is plugged in it wont charge. Then it comes all good. Is there anyway to reset it or has anyone else had the problem? Is the best way to deal with it to throw it against the wall and go and buy another one? Cheers Brendon

There are reset commands from the iPod itself, but I cant remember them at moment. Try a search on the web and you'll find them. Cant gaurantee that will fix it tho...
An alternative is a different firmware/OS http://www.rockbox.org/ <--- Have heard good things from that, but havent tried it myself Otherwise, if youre an uber nerd you can install a ported version of linux on the iPod (podlinux i think). Geek it up!

Download the iPod updater from the Apple website, and do a complete restore. Make sure you backup all your songs, cause they will be gone!!
If after that your still having problems, take it to you nearest apple centre for replacement, IF still under warrenty! |

Thanks for the help......
I will try the full restore and see what happens. The whole linux thing is way way way over my head!!! Would be cool to have something a little different to everyone else though. Brendon

Download iTunes 7 It now does this. All you need to do is authorise both computers (log into your itunes account on both machines) and getting back to the original post, Have your iPod on, flick the hold switch on and off 3 times (finish with hold OFF) press and hold the menu and the middle click button for up to 10 seconds, it will fully reboot the iPod (you wont lose data) Sometimes you need to do it a few times before it works, you will know it works cos the screen will fade and the apple logo will appear after a few seconds. Good luck. |
