if they were really all about traffic calming and not revenue raising then why raise the fines ?
if they were really all about traffic calming and not revenue raising then why raise the fines ?

why not just points...
Because the govt are keen to keep the playing field even <sarcasm
meter off the scale>. If they only raise the points, then everyone
will hurt the same, but because the govt is sleeping with the rich end
of town they felt it was only fair to penalise the poor people more.

So if you speed and are rich you lose some points and don't notice
the cash. If you speed and are poor, you lose the points and your
kids starve for a week.

Yet another way the govt is keeping things fair and watching out
for the well being of the community... NOT.

EVL WRX 08-12-2006 02:01 PM

For 40kms' over the limit they raised the demerit points by 1 but raised the cash by $650!!!! That's a 300% rise in cash, but they are not revenue raising..

Giddyup 08-12-2006 05:55 PM

Best way to avoid not adding to the revenue, DONT SPEED. Just a thought.
Best way to avoid not adding to the revenue, DONT SPEED. Just a thought.
Hee hee hee... I love this one. Even though I bitch a lot, I subscribe to it.
It really is so simple, but most people don't get it. Dont speed=no files.
If everyone did it then speed camera's wouldn't pay for themselves and
would be shelved.

Link to all the above posted.

Well lucky it ain't like Sydney where all the fines start with 3 demerit points!!

But I'm glad that some of the offenses listed have had the demerit points decreased. Some were very ridiculous.

redly rocket 08-12-2006 09:04 PM

YAY for 40+kms over and double demerits wkends!

Giddyup 08-12-2006 09:49 PM

Yeah thats gonna hurt.

darlyn 09-12-2006 01:46 PM

I believe the main reason for raising the dollar factor is that the current fines are not a deterrent, most people who flaunt the law are the ones who have the most money, ie lawyers, mine workers. What with the current economic boom most are saying psst to 150 fine I earn that in 10 mins.

Even in the NSW where fines are hefty, people still speed and break the law, so no matter how high the fines, people still believe it wont happen to them and still get pissed off at the coppers for pulling them over.

As the cops on this forum have already stated don't offend, no lose of points or dollars AUS.

Disclaimer: I occasionally speed, but not by much

Simon 09-12-2006 01:57 PM

Ouch!

vyper 09-12-2006 02:11 PM

Useless f*cktards. Revenue raising at its best.

saturation 09-12-2006 11:07 PM

not that i condone 40 + over the limit, i mean 90 in a 50 zone aint good.

Theres plenty of other options though, why not a 1 month suspension.

Surely if some actual thought was put into the system, good results will come, rather than just keep raising the fines..

its obviously not worked so far why would increasing it make any difference.

Yes it is breaking the law, what I am saying is that not everyone is perfect and does not speed sometime in there driving life, yes even me, just cause I am a cop doesnt mean that I am not human.

What do you what of your Police Service, a robot or a human to make decisions

Yes, and some of those who enforce the law believe they are above it.
Like the countless number of patrol cars and bikes that cruise past at just over the limit

Well that we are allowed to do in order to monitor traffic etc. Example would be travelling down the freeway. If we are going the same as everyone else, we would see the same 2 3 4 cars. We are covered to travel that little bit more in order to check cars ahead etc.

I do believe it is ILLEGAL for any police car, ambulance or other
emergency type vehicle to speed or break the law an ANY other
way unless they have sufficient lights and/or sirens on at the
time of the said offence.

For example I know of a few friend who went though speed cameras
while speeding in an emergency vehicle and got a fine that said something
to the effect of "You where speeding without sufficient lights/sirens".

Huy 10-12-2006 09:03 PM

I was on old Mandurah road at 2am in April, heading south for some salmon fishing and had a policeman on a bike go past us like we weren't moving. No lights or anything. I guess he'd had a long night.

Mat 10-12-2006 11:09 PM

Did you catch any huy :p

I know this copper who got caught speeding in a work car by a multinova and had to come up with a damn good reason why he was speeding. Eventually he used a dude i know as an excuse and i heard his superiors even called up that person to see how legit it all was. If he didnt have a reason he'd end up in the shit for speeding..

Daryln, my point is pretty simple. One sentance you tell "us" not to speed and break the road laws and the next minute you admit you do it yourself.

SilentKilla 10-12-2006 11:41 PM

everyone speeds.

As I stated I am human and on occasions (very rarely) yes I admit that sometimes my speed creeps over the limit (speeding), and if I am caught by either a cop or a multinova then I admit my guilt and get on with life. As my old SGT told me, "everyone speeds we can only catch so many, you can not catch all of them, so dont try to"

And again its not me telling you not to speed its the road traffic act/code that makes it illegal. My job is simple inforce/Police the law

skitzyrex1 11-12-2006 04:43 PM

My friend who is a cop told me this funny little story.

Another cony at his station got done on his motorbike for doing 6kmph over by a traffic cop in Geraldton just a little while ago. If he wasnt a good friend I wouldnt have believed him.

Giddyup 11-12-2006 09:35 PM

Yes it is true, if we speed in a work car and get done by a camera, we pay like evryone else unless we had good reason.

I realise this Dan, however I would be pissed off being done 6 over, especially by a college. Its not exactly ground breaking speed.

P.s - Awesome that you finally got that pay rise

Yes I would be pissed off but I was once told by a traffic cop that he pulled over a defective and the d pleaded to the traffic cop not get a ticket. The traffic cop replied that would the defective let him go if he assaulted someone, which the D replied that he would not...........

Hench if you brake the law then expect to pay

Bear in mind though I would not go out of my way for a minor traffic infringement
