Default Patrol TD ute

I'm looking at replacing my Sierra bush basher for a Patrol single cab ute,

Probably looking at sometime around 20k-25K MAX, preferably turbo diesel and capable of towing a track hack

what are the pros and cons?
Turbo Diesel Vs Petrol
Coil spring Vs Leaf spring
what should I be looking out for?
Are there workshops that like ASG/MMS that I can have them looked at?

a quick gumtree search...

If you are going to lift it dont get IFS. There is alot of work that has to happen to get an IFS lifted. TD will always produce more torque and better fuel economy then petrol under realitive circumstances.

Compression tests are not easy on Diesels either so its a bit of a hit and miss with that diagnostic.

Look for something with some Air/E/Mechnical lockers makes offroad alot easier. If its from a car yard, just pop the fuel tank and see if the inside if full of red dust or look for obvious signs of mine site apparel that would of been bolted to it and left bolt holes.

If you haven't done so already, patrol4x4.com.au - a plethora of information. I think the utes only came in 4.2TD...? (unsure). If it's a 3L from 2000 - 2005, walk away.

If it's been used as a tow vehicle, it's a gamble, if the owner/s shifted into 5th too early and labored the vehicle. There is a few other bits and pieces to spot too.

Brent.
