What's wrong with the 3.0lts? Are they rubbish in the way that you don't get bang for buck if you start playing with them ( boost etc )? Or do they blow up? I was under the impression the early GUs were not so flash but figured they may have sorted issues by now?

They're rubbish in the way that you get lots of bang whether you play with them or not, and as a result you need to fork out lots of bucks.

Best so far is 12l/100 avg is around 16/18. Towing Sam's car to Collie it returned 22l/24/100 but towed the 2.4ton up Collie hill very well and it's comfy as for travelling on and off road on a little bit of a offroad recently it was awesome fun !

i've seen a 3.0 ltr turbo with 260xxxkms original mileage off a 2004 patrol before and plenty more on the patrol4x4 forums doing over 200xxx kms on original engine. i think like anything the cost cutting of most car makers are ruining their reliability but i think for what you pay it's worth it . once it goes bang just buy an old GQ and put the 4.2TD in it or even gen4s

Its not hard clocking KM on the 3.0i in fact I've seen plenty, but what sort of repair had to be done before getting to that amount of km is a different story. I would much rather a 4.2 then a 3.0 thats all. I did drive a decent 3.0i yesterday, tho i am certain the thing was chipped and tuned properly.

At the end of the day, 4.2i is worth the money.
